Golfers swing into action early in the Thermen- & Vulkanland region of experience and adventure. One foot on the green and the other in soothing thermal water: that describes golfing in the Thermen- & Vulkanland region to a tee.

The mild temperatures attract golfers to four very different golf courses – GC Traminergolf Resort Klöch, GC Bad Gleichenberg, GC Thermengolfanlage Loipersdorf, GC Bad Waltersdorf – in early spring, and the game continues until well into autumn.

Tee time!

Between March and November, nestled among the gently rolling hills and brushed by an almost Mediterranean southerly breeze, the Thermen- & Vulkanland announces that “tee” is served. And what’s on offer? Four laid-back golf courses, each with its own scenic charms, that will satisfy even the most discerning golf fans.

The sedate atmosphere comes from the mellow climate, the many hours of sunshine and the welcoming hills, whose valleys make snug spots for greens, almost as if Nature had intended it that way. Golfers will find the perfect conditions for a game that brings mind and body into play at once.

And it’s happy news for golfers to find that they can continue playing in the Thermen- & Vulkanland from November through to March. In Bad Waltersdorf, for instance, you can practise on the modern indoor golf course, no matter the weather.

GC Traminergolf Resort Klöch

The golf complex in Klöch offers a challenging 18-hole course, sheltered among the lakes, fields and forests of Styria’s hilly “Spa Country”. Beginners can take on the simpler 9-hole course and the driving range.

Its wonderful location and multi award-winning Klöcher wine – most notably the rose-scented Klöcher Traminer – are equally thrilling for golfers and wine lovers alike.

GC Bad Gleichenberg

Founded in 1984, the Bad Gleichenberg Golf Club is a 9-hole complex. But don’t underestimate it: in terms of difficulty, it is easily a match for many of its 18-hole cousins. The course in Bad Gleichenberg is challenging, but fun.

Every hole is different, and no round is ever the same. Time and again, you’ll be up against a situation you’ve never experienced before. It sits snugly in Southeast Styria’s “Hill Country”, offering a natural experience that would be hard to recreate on an artificially built site.

Thermengolfanlage Loipersdorf

Spanning some 100 hectares, the “Thermal Golf Complex” (PAR 72/SSS 72) lies between Bad Loipersdorf and the spa capital of Fürstenfeld in a beautiful, unspoiled wetland area on the border between Styria and the Burgenland.

Pure golfing enjoyment, far removed from noisy traffic and the stresses of everyday life. There are 27 fairways to mix and match, offering you the chance to play three different 18-hole variants.

GC Bad Waltersdorf

True to the motto “golf is fun”, English golf course designer Michael Pinner has come up with a unique 18-hole course here in Bad Waltersdorf.

The 18-hole course is still a relatively new golfing destination. The newest member of the Murhof Group is excellently maintained and is something of an insider’s tip among Styrian golf courses.

Start your day on the course in the morning dew, and bring it to a relaxing close with a 15-minute stone bath and a classic massage. The Thermen- & Vulkanland region is also part of a “borderless” golfing region that encompasses remarkable locations in Southeast Styria as well as the Burgenland, Hungary and Slovenia.

But why go so far when the best is right outside your door? To be precise, by “best” we mean the four charming golf courses nearby, which are a pleasure for both beginners and professionals. There’s nothing like getting out in nature, which seems to have reached into its bag of tricks and pulled out everything a golfer could hope for in surroundings like this: greens cocooned within valleys as if designed for the very purpose, wonderful views, beautiful shadow play, precious fresh air... And, oh yes: it’s gorgeous! Combining a spot of golf with a visit to a thermal bath and sauna is a delight for body and soul. Following a few hours of mental focus and physical exertion, there’s nothing like letting your mind and body relax in the enveloping warmth of a thermal spa.

Incidentally: Take your time to enjoy the different golf complexes in the region, as woods and irons can be unpacked in the Thermen- & Vulkanland until well into autumn. Spring arrives early and autumn generally arrives late.
