This particularly easy and panoramic hike in Ausseerland is ideal for families with baby carriages, senior citizens or anyone who likes to take it easy when hiking. The route runs along the sunny high plateau of the Tauplitzalm, past blooming mountain meadows, glistening lakes and magnificent views of the mountains of the Totes Gebirge.
A well-maintained path leads from the parking lot on the Tauplitzalm towards Hollhaus. In front of the house, a gravel path leads westwards around the Krallersee lake. Then continue east, past the Hotel Hierzegger, always on the asphalted high plateau road.
The route leads past the mountain station of the 4-seater chairlift in the direction of Steirersee. Near the station is the striking mountain church, whose gable shape is reminiscent of a mountain - a worthwhile photo spot.
Shortly before the Steirersee, a path branches off to the left to the famous Steirerseebankerl. A rest here is a must: the view of the Sturzhahn, which Heinrich Harrer was the first to climb, is impressive. If you wish, you can walk a little further down to the Steirerseehütten and fortify yourself with an alpine snack. Return via the same route across the plateau.
Thanks to paved paths, the tour is suitable for baby carriages and wheelchairs (up to the Steirerseebankerl, not to the Steirerseehütten!) and offers an easy version of the diverse alpine experience of the Tauplitzalm - ideal for families with small children.
