The Trisselwand is one of the most impressive panoramic peaks in Ausseerland. With its steep rock face, it towers impressively over Lake Altaussee and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Dachstein, the Sarstein, the Loser, the Tote Gebirge and the Schladminger Tauern. This challenging mountain tour requires a good level of fitness, sure-footedness and alpine experience.
The starting point is the parking lot at the Tressensattel. First you walk back a short distance on the asphalt road before turning left at the Trisselwand snack bar onto Alpine trail no. 233. The trail leads uphill across a meadow slope and continues through moderately steep high forest terrain.
The terrain gradually opens up and the red-white-red marked trail leads through the so-called Loitzl Kluft above the tree line. From here, there are already magnificent views of the Dachstein, Lake Altaussee and Lake Grundlsee.
This is followed by a traverse in the rock, the so-called “Riebeisen”, followed by steep rocks and hairpin bends in loose scree. Past the Ahornkogel (1,687 m), you reach a wide basin through which the path runs flat. At the fork in the trail, keep left and continue to follow Alpine trail no. 233 through fields of mountain pines. After another 500 meters you reach the summit cross of the Trisselwand (1,755 m).
The descent follows the same route back to the starting point.
The summit rewards you with a spectacular panoramic view of Lake Altaussee, around 1,000 meters below. The unique mountain panorama ranges from the Dachstein massif to the Ennstal Alps, the Postalm region, the Schladminger Tauern and the Totes Gebirge.
