More information

The journey to Tauplitz is best planned with google.at/maps. From there you can take the 4-seater chairlift to the high plateau.

By car, you can get to the Tauplitzalm from Bad Mitterndorf via the Tauplitzalm Alpine Road (toll).

This impressive hike leads from the Tauplitzalm across the largest lake plateau in Central Europe to the Gnanitzalm. Breathtaking panoramic views, crystal-clear mountain lakes and idyllic alpine landscapes await along the way.

You can either start at the parking lot on the Tauplitzalm or at the mountain station of the 4-seater chairlift. The small Tauplitzalm mountain church is located right next to the mountain station and is well worth a visit.

From here, the trail leads across gentle alpine meadows towards Steirersee. A short detour to the Steirersee-Bankerl is worthwhile - the view of the striking Sturzhahn and the deep blue Steirersee is spectacular.

The route then continues along the Steirersee, either via the north or south side (surefootedness required!). After the Steirersee, the next mountain lake is reached - the Schwarzensee. This idyllic lake is nestled between gentle alpine hills and invites you to take a short break.

The hike continues towards Leistalm and Interhütte before descending into the Nattern Graben. Here you follow the Grimmingbach stream out of the valley, which offers a special nature experience with its clear water and tranquil atmosphere. Finally, you reach the beautiful Gnanitzalm, a traditional alpine pasture with rustic huts.

After a well-earned break in one of the two huts at the Gnanitzalm, the return route leads along a gravel path and finally along the asphalt road to Tauplitz.
A free Ausseerland hiking map is available to help you plan your hiking vacation in Ausseerland and can be conveniently ordered by post. The hiking map store also offers a large selection of detailed maps for other mountain tours in the region.

In summer the bus stops directly at the valley station. The 4-seater chairlift can be reached from Tauplitz train station in about 20 minutes on foot.

There are plenty of free parking spaces available.
