We start at the hiking starting point right in the center of
Unterlamm at the information point. From there we walk through the village and turn left to the parish church. At the back of the church is the
Lourdes Marian Grotto, a replica of the Marian grotto in Lourdes. The route now goes uphill along a paved footpath, then turns right and follows the road through the populated area. At a road junction, we turn left, continue slightly uphill and soon come to a meadow path that leads over a ridge with great views. We reach the 15m high
lookout point and hike level or slightly uphill across this hilly landscape. The hiking trail continues along an asphalt road until we reach station 3 “Enjoy our wines”. Continuing past the Weingarten Resort with the “
Smallest restaurant in Austria” and the restaurant “
Speisenmanufaktur", we follow the asphalt road until we see the turn-off into the forest on the left. At this turn-off, the signposts are not directly next to the road, but somewhat hidden at the edge of the forest. From now on, the trail continues through the forest, past the back of a chapel and with slight ups and downs. The hiking trail joins an asphalt road that leads past the Sieglhof farm. After a short time, turn right into the forest and the path runs more or less parallel to the road until you reach the crossroads at the Roman burial mounds, from where you have the option of walking left to the
Loipersdorf thermal spa, always following the yellow signs “In the footsteps of the volcanoes - Handspur” ("Auf den Spuren der Vulkane)".
At the Roman burial mound information board, we turn right along the forest path to return along the circular route towards Unterlamm. When we come out of the forest, we walk along fields and meadows and reach station 7 with the “Zu die Nachbarn schaun” rest and information point. We pass a farm and turn left immediately afterwards. We continue through the forest and across meadows until we reach the Haselbach Chapel. At the chapel, we keep to the right and walk slightly downhill across meadows and fields until we reach an asphalt road. Now turn left downhill past vineyards to the valley floor. Turn right along the road until we see the turn-off to the left after the “Magland Abzw. Stambach” bus stop. We walk across the fields and reach the Lehenbach, which we follow upstream. There is a small rest area at the suspension bridge over the Lehenbach. In Magland, we walk along the village road for a while and then turn left over the bridge. We walk through the sparsely populated area, keeping straight ahead in a left-hand bend and passing directly by the houses. Immediately afterwards, we continue along fields until we make the loop to the natural pond complex shortly before Unterlamm. The
Unterlamm natural pond complex consists of three ponds and numerous information boards about the Celtic tree calendar. We walk around the ponds and follow the asphalt road downhill back to the center of
Unterlamm.
