From the parking lot, the trail first leads downhill to the center of Obersdorf. Turn left at the first signpost and walk steadily uphill along the road past traditional farms. After the last farm, the steep Achzweg, once a transport route for the ore mined at Kampl, follows. Here you will find the first of a total of twelve GeoTrail information boards, which offer fascinating insights into the geology of the region.
After the ascent, the trail meets a forest road to the Teltschenalm. After about 20 minutes, continue left across a short section of forest until you reach another forest road. Shortly before it ends, turn right at the sign “zur Teltschenmutter”. There is a wayside shrine here that commemorates the apparition of Our Lady to the cattle herder Peter Dangl in 1889.
The trail continues over the alpine pasture, past a huge pile of ore and through sparse larch forest to the Achzloch, a historic ore mining cave. After a further ascent, a fork in the path appears, follow the yellow markings and ascend to the summit of the Kampl in around 30 minutes. The mountain tour is rewarded here with a spectacular view of the Hinterberg valley and the Dachstein glacier.
The trail leads along the mountain ridge past the “Jesu-Namen” shrine to the Seidenhofalm. Instead of following the forest road, the route follows the yellow signs for the Kampl circular trail, crosses the alpine pasture and leads downhill past the easternmost hut. After the Ochsensprung, a narrow rock formation with an information board, continue through steep spruce forest to the forest road junction, where a bench and a spring invite you to take a break.
From here, cross the forest path and continue towards Obersdorf. Pass the imposing Kas-Schwarer rock with its information board and continue downhill to a fork in the path. If you want to return directly to Obersdorf, take the left-hand path. The correct Kampl circular trail turns right to the legendary Knödl-Alm on the Knoppenberg, which invites you to take a well-earned rest with regional specialties.
After the pasture, follow the signpost, take the slightly ascending path to the next farm, turn left uphill just before it and then right at the next fork in the path. The path runs along the edge of the forest and finally leads back to Obersdorf.
