More information

The best way to get to Grundlsee/Gößl is to plan with google.at/maps
The hike and signposting begins on the opposite side of the leisure center Gößl at the Grundlsee. You walk along a beautiful forest path, past the Ranftlmühle, to the memorial stone Erzherzog Johann and Anna Plochl and on to the mystical Toplitzsee.

Until the recent past, numerous expeditions were undertaken into the depths of the Toplitzsee. The reason for the sometimes costly undertakings is mostly related to the history of the lake during the Second World War. According to rumors, at the end of the war valuable art objects and gold belonging to the regime of that time were sunk in the lake. The speculation about whether and especially what is still hidden in the mud of the Toplitz Lake continues to this day.

There is no hiking trail around the Toplitzsee, which is encircled by rock walls and trees. The Toplitzsee can be navigated only during the summer months with a Plätte (Schifffahrt Grundlsee).

After a leisurely rest at the fishermen's hut at the Toplitzsee, the hike leads on the gravel road below the Gößler Wand back to the village of Gößl and the starting point.

Between May and October a boat trip (in the Plätte) across the Toplitzsee is possible. A short path leads from the end of the Toplitzsee to the Kammersee.
