This pushchair-friendly hike leads along a shady path along the Traun river upstream to Grundlsee. The route has no significant differences in altitude and offers a relaxed way to enjoy nature in Ausseerland.
The Richard-Eybner-Promenade is named after the well-known chamber actor Prof. Richard Eybner (1896-1986), who was a regular guest at the Hotel Wasnerin in Bad Aussee for many years. The famous quote comes from him: “In Aussee you only meet clever people. The stupid ones go home when it rains and the clever ones stay.”
The walk begins in Bad Aussee's Kurpark and continues along Hauptstraße and Meranplatz into Kirchengasse. After a few meters, the route branches off to the left into the Richard-Eybner-Promenade. Following the signs to Grundlsee, the path runs above the cemetery, past the remains of the former Rosegger ski jump. Below the former ski jump, the trail continues through the forest down to the Bad Aussee district heating plant.
After crossing the main road, the hike continues along the paved cycle and hiking trail to the Iron Footbridge, where the Grundlseer Traun is crossed. The shady gravel path then runs right next to the Traun to the settlement in the district of Aschau.
Past the Waldruhe inn, the path climbs slightly and leads past a river weir. After around 1.5 kilometers, you reach the Fischersteg footbridge, which you use to cross the Traun again. Beyond the main road, at the driveway to the Mondi Hotel on Lake Grundlsee, the asphalt cycle and hiking trail branches off to the left. The last 400 meters lead to the Seeklause of the Grundlsee, where an impressive view of the “Styrian Sea” opens up.
