Beautiful winter hiking trail along the Rosary Trail to the Chapel of St. Sebastian.
The path leads directly from Mariazell via Schießstattgasse and Buschniggweg along the rosary stations to Sebastianikapelle. From there either return on the same path or continue along the B20 to Mitterbach and return with the Mariazellerbahn.

Coming from Graz:

A9 Phyrnautobahn north, then S35 Brucker Schnellstraße and S6 Semmering Schnellstraße to Kapfenberg exit, then on the B20 (Mariazeller Bundesstraße) 49 km north (signpost).

Variant: S6 Semmering expressway to St. Marein exit and then over the Pogusch to Turnau and from Au on the B20 to Mariazell.

Coming from Salzburg:

Westautobahn A1 to exit Ybbs, then B25 to Scheibbs, from there two options:Either B28 via Wastl am Wald to B20, then via Annaberg and Josefsbergor B25 further to Grubberg and then B71 via the newly expanded Zellerrain.

Coming from Vienna:

Take the A1 Westautobahn to the St. Pölten Süd exit, then the B20 (Mariazeller Bundesstraße) 76 km south, either via Annaberg and Josefsbergor in Freiland turn left from the B20 onto the B21 and continue via Hohenberg and St. Aegyd through the Halltal valley to Mariazell (sufficiently signposted).

Variant: Südautobahn A2 and S6 Semmering expressway to Mürzzuschlag, then via Neuberg and Mürzsteg on the B21 to Mariazell.

We start in Mariazell at the info office and walk along Schießstattgasse and Buschniggweg towards St. Sebastian. Before the forest promenade, turn right onto Rosenkranzweg and cross first the family descent and then the north-west descent (attention). Past the Holzknechthütte into the forest and then keep right. Through the Habertheuerweiter along the rosary stations to the chapel (closed in winter). 

Way back: either the same route back or a short stretch along the B20 to Mitterbach and with the Mariazellerbahn back to Mariazell (about 1.7 km to the train station). Or back by bus 197 - click here for the timetable
