In order to be drawn to this museum you first have to know what Köhlerei (German for charcoal burning) is all about. The English term doesn’t really do it justice; it is about one of the oldest craftsmanship techniques existing - producing charcoal from wood. Charcoal from Hieflau was used in the melting furnaces in Eisenerz to produce iron and used to be an important economic activity for the region. All this and much more is what you will find out about at the Köhlerzentrum Museum.
The current opening hours you can find on the website of the Gemeinde Landl.
