Reinischwirt - Absetzwirt circular route

This circular hike is particularly popular with mushroom hunters. At the Reinischwirt you can also taste the excellent prepared mushrooms in autumn.
On this circular trail, a special rock formation awaits you in the form of the Schratlofen. But before you can take the obligatory souvenir photo at this natural monument, you start your circular hike from the legendary Reinischwirt. You should allow yourself two hours and 20 minutes for this tour, as you will cover almost eight kilometres through the wonderful nature. With an extended rest in the inn, it can take a little longer. The trail is easy to hike and thus also well suited for children.Especially in autumn, when it is mushroom season, remember to pack a cloth bag and a pocket knife in your rucksack.Because you shouldn't just walk past the wonderful mushrooms on the wayside. But please note the quantity limit when picking. For a hearty snack such as a Styrian soup pot or a juicy beef schnitzel, you should plan a break at the Reinischwirt, as the Absetzwirt is currently closed.

More information

Plan your journey via Google Maps to the starting point of the tour: www.google.at/maps

Coming from Stainz: Engelweingartenstraße - Salleggerstraße - Reinischwirt (approx. 21km).

Coming from Deutschlandsberg: Hebalmlandesstraße and at the beginning of Kloster - St. Oswald turn right to Reinischwirt (approx. 22.5km).

Coming from Carinthia: Hebalmlandestraße, at the end of Kloster - St. Oswald turn left to Reinischwirt.

You can look forward to a pleasant hike through the wonderful natural landscape of the Schilcherheimat in Western Styria. From the Reinischwirt inn, where you start freshly fortified after a hearty meal, you march full of anticipation for what awaits you, 100 metres to the Salleggerstraße with the marking L 645. Now hike with lively steps to the left along the Salleggerstraße. After about one and a half kilometres, turn left again and follow the new forest road.

The soft ground under your hiking boots lets you stroll along comfortably. From here on you should also keep your eyes open for the first mushrooms. Don't hesitate to leave the path now and then and look for porcini mushrooms under young conifers or on areas overgrown with moss. Please only take mushrooms that you know. For less experienced pickers, it is a good idea to carry a mushroom book with you.

The path you stroll along is marked with the number 569 and a sign to the Absetzwirt. After about one kilometre on the new forest road, follow the markings to the right.

You will now reach the Schratlofen natural monument. Take your time here for a rest and don't forget to capture this motif with your camera. This is a rock tower named after the Schraten, which is what forest spirits were called in former times.

Now follow the signs always in the direction of Absetzwirt, which is unfortunately currently closed, until you reach the junction of several hiking trails.

At this junction you have to turn sharply left and always follow the trail with the number 14/23 until you reach the Reinischkogelweg after about three kilometres. Now turn left downhill and take the path with the number 23 back to the Reinischwirt.

Hopefully you now have a rucksack full of porcini mushrooms on your back, if not, you can also taste them already deliciously prepared at the Reinischwirt. Your photo of the Schratlofen will remind you of this wonderful hike for a long time to come.

Mushroom hunting: In late summer and autumn, this hike is particularly popular with mushroom pickers. Especially porcini mushrooms and chanterelles grow by the wayside.
No connection to the public transport network!
Parking spaces are available directly at the Reinischwirt.
