An accessible trail for everyone: The Leierweg leads from the Weidendom to the “Leier” viewpoint, where we can observe the famous backflow of the Enns – a nature experience for all levels of mobility.
The Leierweg is intentionally easy – because the Gesäuse National Park wants everyone to experience nature. For those who can’t climb the Planspitze, there are accessible options in the valley to enjoy culture and landscape. With a wheelchair and a Swiss Trac (electric towing device), the trail becomes a small adventure – almost like being pulled by a pack of electronic huskies. Sounds cool? It is! This path offers nature without barriers and shows how inclusive the National Park truly is.

More information

Gesäusebundesstraße B 146 from direction Admont or Hieflau until junction Johnsbach
We begin at the Weidendom – the perfect starting point for a visit to the Gesäuse National Park. From here, the Leierweg winds about four kilometers to the “Leier” viewpoint, where we can admire the backflow of the Enns. The trail features a mix of wooden boardwalks, asphalt, and gravel. Along the way, information panels designed specifically for wheelchair users provide insights into nature and culture. This path is ideal for beginners and anyone who wants to explore the park at a relaxed pace. At the end, a bench awaits with views of the green Enns Valley and the gently flowing river.
The national park offers guided programmes at the willow dome: Microscopy of a water drop, determination of the creatures using boards, finally the water drop is projected onto a screen and tiny water fleas and mayfly larvae become monsters moving on the screen.
