We., 15.07.2026 from 19:00 o'clock

ZWO LECTURES at the Kammerhofmuseum on the topic “Salt- the white Gold”

The topic "Salt - the White Gold will be explained in two consecutive lectures as follows:

“The History of Salt Brine Production in the Ausseerland”
Dipl.-Ing. Ernst Gaisbauer, Chairman of the Austrian Salinen AG (retired)
Until the beginning of the High Middle Ages, natural brine springs at Sandling were sufficient to supply the evaporation pans and thus the population. However, the increasing demand for salt soon required new methods of salt extraction.

“The Kammergut and the Habsburgs. A 650-Year History”
 Dr. Michael Kurz, Historian
Since the High Middle Ages, the two “Salt Kammergüter” have been the property of the Habsburgs. They existed side by side, sometimes in competition, sometimes in harmonious cooperation. The Hallamt in the Ausseer Kammerhof was the powerful center of Styrian salt production, but at times was subordinate to the Gmunden Salt Authority.
