The poor farm boy Nemorino is hopelessly in love with the attractive, yet moody landlady Adina. However, she is also adored by the officer Belcore. Thank goodness the self-proclaimed doctor and charlatan Dulcamara is involved, selling Nemorino a hearty red wine as a love elixir, which is supposed to make women crazy for him. Suddenly, everyone is infatuated with this unremarkable farm boy, which Dulcamara himself cannot understand at all. After all, it was just a simple red wine - or was it not?
For the summer of 2025, director Wolfgang Atzenhofer is relocating this adventurous story based on Eugene Scribe's work to the Bergmannplatz in the heart of Eisenerz, where the interested audience will be presented with a directorial blend of the television format "Farmer Wants a Wife" and the shooting of the new youth calendar by local associations. The audience will seemingly become an integral part of the production as they sit among hay bales, experiencing this summer comedy about love and jealousy, as well as tractors and wine in a fitting ambiance. Prominently involved are also the project choir from Eisenerz and regional youth associations, which will adequately contribute to this extraordinary opera production!
