Etappe 01 Murradweg Sticklerhütte - St. Michael im Lungau

The first stage takes us from the source of the Mur at the Sticklerhütte to St. Michael im Lungau. The source of the Mur can be reached on foot from the hut in about 1 1/2 hours. The imposing peaks of the Ankogel Group and the Radstädter Tauern form the scenic backdrop.
The first day's stage is short in terms of distance, but particularly attractive in terms of scenery. Here in the source region of the Mur, the Hohe Tauern National Park, we hike from the Sticklerhütte to the source of the Mur. Alpine meadows and grasslands cover the terrain. Depending on the weather, up to 5,000 litres of crystal-clear spring water emerge below the Brunnwand and then flow 444 kilometres to the mouth of the Drau near Legrad in Croatia. We follow the bubbling water by bike.

The Sticklerhütte, perched above the village of Muhr in the Lungau region, is the starting point of our ride along the Mur Cycle Path. Situated in the northernmost corner of Hohe Tauern National Park, this area offers a stunning alpine backdrop that sets the tone for the journey ahead. Right from the start, the route presents a fast descent that shouldn’t be underestimated – even for experienced cyclists. The hairpin bend above the Arsenhütte and the sweeping curve in Jedl demand precise handling and full concentration. A great way to warm up your legs and sharpen your focus for the adventure that lies ahead.

We continue our ride through the Schmalzgraben on a smooth asphalt road leading to Jedl and then on to Muhr in the Lungau region. From here, the route follows the stream, guiding us through a breathtaking alpine panorama. A few more kilometers of scenic riding take us to St. Michael im Lungau – the first stage goal of our tour.
