At the southern end of Semmering Station, we begin the well-signposted Styrian section of the Railway Hiking Trail. After a few hairpin turns, we reach the High Street with the Hochstraße Museum, continuing on to the Semmering Pass. From here, we pass the snowmaking pond and the Alpenhof settlement, crossing over the old Semmering road back to the railway. Now, we walk through a forest area towards Steinhaus am Semmering, then past the Hotel 'Haus Semmering' across a meadow. Shortly after, we reach the northern Steinhaus Viaduct. We walk through the viaduct and immediately turn right, following the local road towards Steinhaus am Semmering Station. Upon arrival, we follow the path along the tracks, steeply descending and passing under the railway, reaching the longest viaduct on the Styrian side. From here, we head downhill through the forest, crossing the Old Reichsstraße to the flood protection embankment, then continuing to the sports field in Spital am Semmering, district Jauern.
At the western end of the sports field, we cross a small bridge and immediately turn right, following the Fröschnitzbach. The path leads us past the cemetery and primary school to the parish and pilgrimage church of Spital am Semmering. We turn right and reach the town center. In the center, we follow the 'Hochweg' to the intersection with Bahnhofstraße. Here, we turn right. To reach the third photo point, we continue straight ahead, parallel to the railway tracks, until we reach the overpass. After that, we follow the path uphill, passing a small horse farm and a wildlife enclosure. We then return to the Railway Hiking Trail. We walk under the railway underpass and follow the slightly rising Bahnhofstraße, enjoying a beautiful view of the path we've already completed. We continue along a trail through the forest and a forest road until we reach an intersection. Keeping to the right, we walk gently uphill, passing the 'Streit' farm towards Grautschenhof. After crossing the Wallersbach, we head slightly right on the gravel road to a marked left turn. We then pass under the railway underpass and walk along the cycle path by the main road. After a short distance, we turn right and go through the railway underpass to the Milestone Monument. We then walk briefly along the main road, and again turn right, passing under the railway to the Zöchlingweg (be sure to follow the markers!). After a few minutes along Zöchlingweg, we reach the turnoff to the clearly visible ÖBB Info Viewpoint and the roundhouse with its distinctive red facade—part of the Southern Railway Museum Mürzzuschlag.
