Peter Rosegger Memorial Trail - Variant: Rosegger Grave
In Krieglach, a memorial trail has been dedicated to its great son, Peter Rosegger. The Gedenkstättenweg (Memorial Trail) leads to all the important stations related to Rosegger's life.
This variant starts at the Rosegger Park, then continues to the Rosegger Museum, the Gölkkapelle, and finally reaches the Rosegger Grave.
The trail offers a great opportunity to explore the places that were significant in Rosegger’s life, while also enjoying the beautiful nature and landscape that inspired much of his writing.
Following in the footsteps of Peter Rosegger through Krieglach – this variant covers the Rosegger Park, the Rosegger Museum, the Gölkkapelle, and the Rosegger Grave at the local cemetery.
Our tour begins at the Rosegger Park, where a sculpture by Paul Kassecker depicts the young 'Peterl' herding sheep. Here, you’ll also find informational panels about the life and work of Peter Rosegger, as well as the starting point of the Rosegger Memorial Trail.
From there, we stroll to the Rosegger Museum and visit the former residence of the poet, which is now open to the public as a museum. We then continue towards ‘Himmel’ (meaning 'heaven'), a place mentioned in Rosegger's stories.
Next, we head towards the Gölkkapelle and then to the local cemetery, where we pay a visit to Peter Rosegger’s grave. From there, it’s a 10-minute walk back to the town center, completing the loop of our small hike.
