Starting from the main square, our route first leads us through Herzog-Ernst-Gasse and across the Bahnhofbrücke towards the train station. However, just before reaching it, we turn right (at this point, we can briefly follow the Murradweg cycle route) and head towards a railway underpass (located in the Bruck district of Pischk).
We pass under the railway and immediately turn right, steeply uphill on a road towards the Gasthaus Himmelwirt (famous for its heavenly schnitzels!). You can also drive up to this point, though there are only a few parking spaces available.
From Himmelwirt, a wide trail leads us uphill to the Almgasthaus Hutterer (open only on weekends).
From here, the path becomes steeper and narrower, but is by no means difficult. After about 45 minutes of walking, we reach a forest road that leads us left (signposted) to the Rennfeld-Schutzhaus (Tip: try the Topfenstrudel).
A little higher, we can already see the cross on the Rennfeld summit. An information panel helps to identify and name the many surrounding peaks.
