Lattenberg - Goldkogel - Kerschkern - Rundwanderung

Panoramic summit tour, perfect for an autumn hike.
Our hike begins at the Bergerhube and takes us along a forest road to the Bärensuhlsattel junction. We climb up through the forest on a well-marked path, cross forest roads and reach the Lattenberg. We continue over the Goldkogel to the summit of the Kerschkern, 2225 m.
The hike begins at the Bergerhube and initially leads along a forest road to the Bärensuhlsattel turn-off. A well-marked path leads us through the forest until we reach the open slope of the Bärensuhlsattel (1794 m) after a short time. From there, we hike comfortably uphill to the Lattenberg (2018 m), which is ideal for a short rest. We continue steadily uphill to the Goldkogel (2080 m). The path to the Kerschkern (2225 m) requires surefootedness, as the final ascent consists of loose stones. A summit cross awaits us at the top and, in good weather, an impressive view as far as the Dachstein and the Karawanken. The descent is via the Krügltörl, well marked by red-white-red signs and cairns. A detour to the idyllic Schaunitzsee lake is well worthwhile. From the Schaunitzalm, a forest road leads us back to the Bergerhube, where we return after around 8 hours.

We start our hike at the Bergerhube and hike along a forest road following the signs to the Moaralm until we reach the Bärensuhlsattel junction. We continue uphill on the well-marked trail in the forest, crossing forest roads along the way. After a short time, we reach a forest-free slope and then the Bärensuhlsattel (1794 m), where we hike uphill to the right until we reach our first summit, the Lattenberg. The Lattenberg is ideal for a short break as it is quite flat. In terms of time, you reach the Lattenberg 2018hm after approx. 3 hours. From the Lattenberg, the trail continues steadily uphill to the Goldkogel (2080 m), which also has no summit cross. The rest of the way to the Kerschkern is a little mean, as you go uphill a few times and then downhill a little. The last ascent to the Kerschkern summit requires a little caution and surefootedness as it consists of many loose stones. These can be slippery, especially in the fall.Once you reach the summit of the Kerschkernkogel at 2225 m, you will find a beautiful summit cross, but the view is even more beautiful when the weather is fine. The view of the Seckauer and Rottenmanner Tauern is easy to find, but if the weather is right, you can even see as far as the Dachstein, the Veitsch or the Karawanken.
Unfortunately, the Kerschkern is also known for the fact that the wind is often very strong there and therefore does not invite you to linger quite as long. From now on it's all downhill. Up to the Krügltörl, the path is clearly marked with red-white-red markings.
From the Törl, there are only occasional cairns, but it is easy to follow them. A short stop at the Schaunitzsee lake is also recommended, but from here the grazing animals can pay you a visit at any time. From the Schaunitzalm, the trail continues along the forest road until you rejoin the familiar ascent path and reach the Bergerhube after approx. 8 hours.
Unfortunately, there are no refreshment stops along the way, but after the tour you will find the Bergerhube to stop for refreshments.

This tour is NOT considered "accessible by train and bus" because there is no regular connection.

There is a large parking lot at the Bergerhube - note that there is a parking fee!
