Get on board and “drive” for an evening through the magical landscapes of the Upper Carniola, Isonzo Valley and Karst to the city of Trieste. meets wine.
It was the last major infrastructure project of the monarchy, the second railroad connection from the domestic industrial centers to Trieste. Its most beautiful section was the Wocheinerbahn, which ran from the high mountains of Upper Carniola to the blue Adriatic. This rail line still runs through Slovenia today on spectacular engineering structures and through tunnels that were ultra-modern at the time. Only the destination, Trieste, is now only reached by detours...
Josef Wallner knows why this is the case and what makes this route a legend for many in Austria, Slovenia and Trieste.
