St. Martin im SulmtalKlaus-Dieter Hartl: "ich vertraue"
“I don't trust photography as a reproduction of reality any more than I trust reality.”
The curator and artist Klaus-Dieter Hartl questions controversial topics of our time in a complex way and uses the means of photography, the subtle processing of image surfaces and the contextual shifting of time and space to delve deep into the building blocks of artistic expression. When shadow images come to the fore and levels of reality shift, and when photographically captured motifs are given a new visual note through painting, we recognize the critical and inventive spirit of a man of art who always dares to take a second look at things.
Klaus-Dieter Hartl, born in Graz in 1951, began working graphically and photographically in the early 1970s. After training at the Pedagogical Academy in Graz, he worked as a teacher and director and systematically established himself as an artist with solo and group exhibitions in Austria and abroad. Various sponsorship awards and decorations, including from the Province of Styria and the federal government, line his path. Hartl has curated exhibitions and festivals, initiated cultural associations and was a founding member of Galerie Marenzi in Leibnitz in 1998 with a focus on contemporary photographic art, which he continues to run successfully.
