Nymphenweiher Niedergams
DeutschlandsbergAs part of this cross-border EU project BioDiTOUR, the Nymphenweiher in the district of Niedergams is being revitalized. The natural area around the Nymphenweiher is a retreat for many animal and plant species.
Through the spread of invasive neophytes, native animal and plant species are being displaced. With the support of the project partner, the Energy Agency of West Styria, the areas around the Nymph Lake have been cleared of neophytes.
By establishing an observation platform, immediate learning and research at and around the water will be enabled. The path around the lake will be designed as an educational trail, with information boards addressing topics such as ecology, biodiversity, natural and recreational spaces, and plant and animal life.
As part of the hiking trail Schilcher-Keller-Weg the Nymph Lake is intended to become an attractive point of interest for those seeking recreation and nature lovers.
The Energy Agency of West Styria has established a neophyte information and research center in the House of Energy in Deutschlandsberg and organizes workshops on this topic. The public can thus be informed about ecological, economic, and health damages resulting from the spread of neophytes.

The EU project BioDiTOUR is a joint Interreg project between Austria and Slovenia.
This project is funded as part of the Interreg V-A Slovenia-Austria cooperation program by the European Union and the European Regional Development Fund.
The BioDiTOUR project is based on the search for a balance between the preservation of biodiversity and the promotion and development of the most valuable assets and showcase points in the cross-border region. One of the key challenges of the project is to highlight the "natural" advantages of the individual border regions.
Five partner communities have joined together for this project cooperation in the border area of Austria and Slovenia. The goal of this project cooperation is to implement cross-border, sustainable tourism experiences based on biodiversity.
Our goals are: The preservation of biodiversity / Ongoing information and education / Creation of infrastructure / Promotion of sustainable tourism.
