The Bärenschützklamm:

The Bärenschützklamm is one of the most beautiful water-bearing rock gorges in Austria. A hike between untamed waterfalls and rugged cliffs is an impressive experience for every hiker. You can hike the Bärenschützklamm in several ways - the shortest tour is 4 hours. The starting point of the circular hike is in Mixnitz, you can also continue to the Teichalm. Impressive photo points and viewing platforms can be found along the way.

The start of the hike through the Bärenschützklamm is in Mixnitz. There are visitor parking spaces as well as bus parking (Train Station Mixnitz). From Mixnitz, it takes about 1.5 hours to reach the official entrance to the gorge (entrance booth). After that, the Bärenschützklamm begins with spectacular walkways, ladders, and through the rocks.

Length of the trail: 1.4 km
Elevation difference: about 700 m (from Bräunermühle to GH Guter Hirte)
with 168 bridges and ladders

The gorge is very demanding, so walking with dogs and small children is not possible.

There are several hiking variants for the Bärenschützklamm:

through the Bärenschützklamm to "Zum guten Hirten" and the Prügelweg back down to the parking lot Mixnitz (about 4.5 hours)
through the Bärenschützklamm, up to Schüsserlbrunn, back to "Zum guten Hirten" and over the Prügelweg back to the parking lot Mixnitz (about 6 hours)
through the Bärenschützklamm to Teichalm: hike up the Bärenschützklamm to "Zum Guten Hirten" and along the Mixnitzbach to Teichalm, same return route to the parking lot Mixnitz or pick-up from Teichalm or taxi back to Mixnitz. (about 4 hours without return)
From Hochlantsch down to Breitenau: Ascent via the Bärenschützklamm to "Steirischer Jockl" (or also up to the Hochlantsch summit) and then the descent down to Breitenau (about 6 to 7 hours)

Attention: The Bärenschützklamm is open for regular operation from May 1 to October 31, daily in good weather. The gorge is closed during the winter months, entry is prohibited and dangerous!
