The roots of plants lead a shadow existence, in the truest sense of the word, in the consciousness of humans. To make the plant organ root as well as the surrounding earth as a basis for our nourisment visible, the project "Nature-Culinarium" from 2012 to 2014 in three locations, Vienna, Pöllau/Eastern Styria and Szombathely/Hungary, was devised and rood display boxes were built.
These root display windows enable visitors (schools, guests, farmers...) to see and understand the basis of life for plants and the importance of biodiversity.
The boxes were planted with traditional plants like beans, flax and rye together with our project partners.
The caretakers of the boxes were trained and are actively supported by the experts of "Bio Forschung Austria" ("Organic Research Austria"), an external university research facility, which is dedicated to the development of organic farming.
Guided Tours are possible from May to August and need to be booked in the tourism office.
