Parish church Stubenberg

Stubenberg

Patron Saint Nicholas

The parish church of St. Nicholas in Stubenberg was rebuilt between 1758 and 1760 in place of a small medieval church. The building is the work of the Graz master builder Joseph Hueber, the builder of the Weizberg Basilica. Numerous tombstones of local nobles from the surrounding castles and palaces have been preserved outside and inside. On the south side is the red marble stone that Hans Eybenstock from Salzburg created for Hanns Drachsler on Neuhaus, who died in 1454. The baroque bell tower of the church was extended in 1907 with a new high spire based on the model of Pischelsdorf. Like the tomb of Count Tacoli from 1911 on the east side of the church, it was planned by Johann Pascher. The five bronze bells from the Grassmayr foundry in Innsbruck produce a mighty peal, the largest bell was raised in 1971, the other bells date from 1949. Above the main entrance there is a modern mosaic by Rudolf Huszar with a picture of the church patron.
