Hartberg town wall

Hartberg

Remains of the town wall date from the 12th to 13th century.

Today, the town wall runs from the Reckturm tower, which was built in the second half of the 13th century, across the terraced town park to Hartberg Castle to the north, along the ring road further east to Franz-Schmidt-Gasse. To the east, the Schölbingerturm tower has been preserved, from which a short remnant of the town wall extends. Below the parish church and the charnel house, the escarpment was part of the church fortifications and was included in the narrower belt of the original town wall. Two town gates were demolished in the 19th century.
