KÜLML KOMM.ST 2025 Exhibition Opening Evelio Moreno - EFIGIES

Anger

Figurative works from folklore, mythology, and towers, processed with a variety of techniques and media.

This is what the Mexican artist Evelio Moreno presents in his exhibition "EFIGIES".

Efigie is a Spanish word that refers to the image or representation of a person, which can also be an animal, generally in painting, sculpture, or engraving. There are many portraits, and in this exhibition, I show a compendium of works from different years, with different techniques and media. The displayed works are figurative, often showcasing nudity and moving between folklore, mythology, and dreams.

Opening: July 21 at 6 PM
Exhibition duration: July 12 – August 31, 2025
Every day from 09:00 AM – 05:00 PM
Admission free!

Biography:

Evelio Moreno (Luis Evelio Rodríguez Moreno), who also signs his works with the alter ego Luis Bisont, is a Mexican artist born in 1982 in Lerdo, in an area known as La Comarca Lagunera, a large semi-desert region in northern Central Mexico. He studied communication sciences at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila in Torreón, Mexico. He has had both solo and group exhibitions in Austria, Spain, and Mexico.

In Austria, he exhibited twice at the Galerie Weberhaus in Weiz – in 2011 and 2015 – and in 2016 at the gallery of the District Nursing Home in Weiz. In 2018, he created a sculpture for the Saubachkult in Oberfeistritz, and in 2023 he exhibited a collage at the Narrenkastl in Frohnleiten. Additionally, he taught a course on cardboard sculpture at Schloss Pöllau in 2016 and 2018. In the summer of 2026, he will have a solo exhibition at Kunsthaus Weiz.

In Mexico, he had several solo exhibitions, most recently at the Museo de Historia y Arte Moderno Palacio de los Gurza in Durango with the title Frangere, which opened the Revueltas Festival in Durango in 2024. He was also invited to display his life-sized self-portrait on the walls of the Museo de Historia y Arte Moderno Palacio de los Gurza alongside other artists from the state of Durango in 2025. He has been a winner and finalist of several regional and national awards in Mexico for collage, sculpture, and painting. His work encompasses all art forms, including graphic arts and photography.

In 2022, he was among the winners of a national prize in Mexico with a self-portrait in the form of a collage, awarded by a ready-made soup company. In 2023, he placed second at the Festival Internacional de la Imagen in Pachuca, Mexico, with a series of collages about the Tarahumara, an indigenous people in northern Mexico.

Another facet of his work includes experimental short films – mostly animated films – that he writes, directs, edits, and sometimes narrates. These short films have won awards and have been part of the official selection at film festivals in Buenos Aires, Mexico City, and Lima, as well as winners at the film festival in Torreón, Mexico.

He has written some short stories, one of which was included in the book for the 90th anniversary of the newspaper El Siglo de Torreón.

During the pandemic, inspired by the engraving of a bison, he created an alter ego named Luis Bisont. His two websites are www.eveliomoreno.com and www.bisont.art
