Figurative works from folklore, mythology, and towers, processed with a variety of techniques and media.
This is shown by the Mexican artist Evelio Moreno in his exhibition "EFIGIES".
Efigie is a Spanish word that refers to the image or representation of a person, which can also be an animal, generally in painting, sculpture, or engraving. There are many portraits, and in this exhibition, I am showcasing a compendium of works from different years, using various techniques and media. Figurative works can be seen, often displaying nudity and moving between folklore, mythology, and dreams.
Exhibition duration: July 12 – August 31, 2025
Open from 09:00 AM – 05:00 PM
Admission free!
Biography:
Evelio Moreno (Luis Evelio Rodríguez Moreno), who also signs his works with the alter ego Luis Bisont, is a Mexican artist born in 1982 in Lerdo, in an area known as La Comarca Lagunera, a large semi-desert region in northern Central Mexico. He studied communications at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences at the Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila in Torreón, Mexico. He has had both solo and group exhibitions in Austria, Spain, and Mexico.
In Austria, he exhibited twice at the Galerie Weberhaus in Weiz – in 2011 and 2015 – and in 2016 at the gallery of the district nursing home in Weiz. In 2018, he created a sculpture for the Saubachkult in Oberfeistritz, and in 2023 he exhibited a collage at the Narrenkastl in Frohnleiten. Additionally, he conducted a course in cardboard sculpture at Schloss Pöllau in both 2016 and 2018. In the summer of 2026, he will have a solo exhibition at Kunsthaus Weiz.
In Mexico, he has had several solo exhibitions, the most recent being at the Museo de Historia y Arte Moderno Palacio de los Gurza in Durango, titled Frangere, which opened the Revueltas Festival in Durango in 2024. He was also invited to portray his life-sized self-portrait on the walls of the Museo de Historia y Arte Moderno Palacio de los Gurza alongside other artists from the state of Durango in 2025. He has been the winner and finalist of several regional and national awards for collage, sculpture, and painting in Mexico. However, his work encompasses all artistic disciplines, including graphic design and photography.
In 2022, he was one of the winners of a national award in Mexico, awarded by a ready-made soup company, with a self-portrait in the form of a collage. In 2023, he won second place at the Festival Internacional de la Imagen in Pachuca, Mexico, with a series of collages about the Tarahumara, an indigenous people in northern Mexico.
Another facet of his work includes experimental short films – mostly animations – which he writes, directs, edits, and sometimes provides voiceovers for. These short films have won awards and were in the official selection at film festivals in Buenos Aires, Mexico City, and Lima, as well as winning at the film festival in Torreón, Mexico.
He has written several short stories, one of which was included in the book celebrating the 90th anniversary of the newspaper El Siglo de Torreón.
During the pandemic, inspired by the engraving of a bison, he created an alter ego named Luis Bisont. His two websites are www.eveliomoreno.com and www.bisont.art
