Blast furnace Pöllau

Neumarkt in der Steiermark

As far back as 1430, the Benedictine monastery of St. Lambrecht was granted imperial rights to dig for ore on its own land.

The ore was mined in numerous day works as well as in small tunnels. On the few remaining and overgrown walls of the old blast furnace, this example was reconstructed around 20 years ago and opened to the public.
