The new museum experience in Neuberg an der Mürz
The revitalized Nature Experience Museum – nature4future will open its doors in May 2025 and presents a completely new way of experiencing nature.
The exhibition showcases the fascinating diversity of the seven Styrian nature parks and conveys current environmental and climate issues in an interactive way. Modern presentations, surprising effects, and a cheeky sense of humor create an adventure that inspires awe and reflection.
The significant collection of Prof. Herbert Schliefsteiner, which shaped the original natural history museum, is preserved. This unique collection – consisting of impressive animal specimens, trophies, and nature-inspired dioramas – has been integrated into the exhibition and can be admired in a dedicated display area. This way, the cultural heritage remains alive and serves as a valuable contribution to understanding nature.

Prof. Schliefsteiner was known not only as a prominent trophy collector but also as a gifted draftsman and painter. His illustrations of landscapes, animals, and plants are featured in numerous textbooks and publications.
In 2021, the Natural History Museum Neuberg was transferred by the Schliefsteiner family to the municipality of Neuberg an der Mürz and the Association Nature Park Mürzer Oberland. A concept for modernization and a new thematic focus of the museum is under development and is expected to be realized in 2025.

Expected from May 15, 2025, to October 26, 2025
Thursday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Groups of 10 persons and school groups: Visits on other days possible by prior telephone arrangement!

The summer season 2022 is over at the Natural History Museum, and the museum is closed for revitalization work. Planned reopening in May 2025!
