Georgiberg und Georgiberg Kirche

Kindberg

The Georgiberg Church towers over a rocky hill in the western area of Kindberg, overlooking the Mürztal valley.

The first documented mention dates back to the year 1232.

At that time, it was already referred to as the older one compared to the parish church. It was the place of worship for the "Dörfl". On the mountain, it was closer to God, along with those buried in the cemetery by the church. A votive stone found in the church from the Roman period, the only one in the Mürzzuschlag district, depicts a "child," specifically a girl in Nordic attire. The mountain must have received its name Kindberg from this.

Later, when the apparently cultic representation was recognized as pagan, the mountain was named by the patron of the church, St. George. The patronage of George also points to a cult site. Sensitive people repeatedly confirm the special aura of the place.

Guided tours can be booked directly at the Georgiberg Association at Tel.: 0664 4959505 or office@georgiberg.at.
