Schloss Friedhofen
St. Peter FreiensteinThe castle Friedhofen, renovated in 2002, presents central areas of mining in the stylish ambiance of a hammer lord's residence.
Around 100 historical tools from salt mining, collected and preserved by the saltworks director, Hofrat Dr. Winfried Aubell, form the main part of the modern collection. Interesting historical tools from the former coal mine Tollinggraben, which come from the private collection of the Bauer family, a selection of surveying instruments from the 16th to the 20th century (on loan from the Montanuniversität Leoben) along with pit lamps from all over the world complete the exhibition.
The permanent mining history exhibition in St. Peter-Freienstein includes:
- Bauer's blacksmith collection from Tollinggraben
- Salt tools from Winfried Aubell
- Surveying instruments from Montanuniversität Leoben
- Pit lamps from around the world, collection from Wallthor
Castle Friedhofen also offers a varied cultural program (theater and concerts).
