Front Lahngangsee
GrundlseeThe Vordere Lahngangsee is a high-altitude mountain lake in the Totes Gebirge of the Ausseerland and attracts hikers and nature lovers with its alpine natural scenery and crystal-clear water.
The Vordere Lahngangsee is situated at around 1,490 meters above sea level in the western Toten Gebirge and belongs to the municipality of Grundlsee in Styria. Nestled between steep rock faces and surrounded by scree fields, the lake impresses with its secluded location and deep blue water. The shore is mostly inaccessible, with only a shallow section characterized by driftwood located at the southwest shore.
Access to the Vordere Lahngangsee is exclusively on foot via marked hiking trails. The ascent from the hiking parking lot Schachen near Gößl is popular, leading to the lake via the Kanzlermoos and the secured Draußengatterl.
The path is demanding but offers diverse landscapes and wide views of the Ausseerland.
The lake is located in the Naturschutzgebiet Totes Gebirge West and is part of the European Natura 2000 protected area, which helps to preserve its unspoiled nature.
It also serves as a stopover on multi-day tours to the Pühringerhütte or to the Albert-Appel-Haus and is a quiet resting place for experienced mountain hikers.
During the summer months in suitable weather.
