Austrian music productions should sound unmistakably, simply like Austria, not clichéd, but authentic. The musical tradition of this country, especially Styria, is strong and lively enough to publish creative projects that take all this into account, that are committed to tradition and innovative, in order to present this heritage to younger generations in a contemporary way. With respect for the essence of folk music, but also utilising the technical possibilities to deliver a concert that is visually and acoustically state-of-the-art, I found what I was looking for in the form of MYSTIC ALPIN. After 28 years of SEER with 14 No.1 albums and 2.5 million concert visitors, it was important to me to redefine the connection between dialect/popular music and folk music elements. The band name also results from the magic of Ausseerland and Styria, whose myths and yodelling tradition were the basis of the project. This means that, with one exception, all the musicians on stage are from Styria and the technical team is also from Styria. In the concert programme, special people from the region have their say in their original voices, supported by a video wall whose content contains a lot of regional landscape footage, such as film footage by the well-known alpinist Markus Raich. Decades of experience as a composer and lyricist for the SEER, as the author of ‘Wilds Wossa’, ‘Sche wars wenns do warst’ ‘ Hoamatgfühl’ etc., I am aware of the importance of using dialect as a central element, but also of using contemporary musical elements to bring new audiences on board. A guard of musicians consisting of ex-members of the Ausseer Hardbradler, the EAV and the SEER guarantees a professional instrumentation, which includes Styrian harmonica and flute as well as a wide-ranging percussion set, the soloist comes from Straß/South Styria and a 7-piece choir from Leibnitz rounds off the Styrian phalanx. Only the star guest of the evening: Zabine, the voice of Hubert von Goisern's Alpinkatzen, is a Tyrolean. I wanted to reinvent myself, to offer quality entertainment to a young audience that likes to dance to the latest rhythms, to fans of ‘Jaklitsch-typical’ lyrics, to those who appreciate the regional way of life and to international pop concert-goers, mostly sung and presented in Styrian dialect. To summarise, MYSTIC ALPIN is more than just another dialect band, it is a multimedia concert experience with the potential to be a musical Styrian calling card.
