3 lakes winter hike at Turracher Höhe

Turracher Höhe is located on a high plateau at 1,763 m above sea level in the middle of the Nockberge Mountains and is well known and popular among nature lovers for activities in both summer and winter.
This winter hike leads to the three lakes, Turracher See, Grünsee, and Schwarzsee, and is considered extremely family-friendly due to the low altitude differences. On the well-signposted trail, you will hike through Swiss stone pine and larch forests, marvel at the world's largest rock crystals (on display at alpin+art+gallery) and learn more about nature from interesting information boards

More information

Coming from Judenburg via Unzmarkt to Scheifling. Turn right here and drive to Murau. In Murau drive straight on via St. Georgen ob Murau and Stadl an der Mur to Predlitz. Turn left here and drive along the winding road to the Turracher Höhe.

Coming from Tamsweg drive straight ahead until you reach Predlitz. Turn right here and drive along the winding road to the Turracher Höhe.

Since the starting point is already at the top of the pass, we only have to cope with minor differences in altitude. At the beginning, we walk a short distance along the shore of Lake Turracher See, after which we can admire the giant rock crystals on display outdoors. In the Swiss stone pine forest, the circular trail leads us to the lake Grünsee. An audio island and a platform above the lake make it easier for us to fully concentrate on nature with all our senses. After the Karl Hut on the way to the lake Schwarzsee, we reach the tree line. At the foot of the Schober Riegel, we have a beautiful view of the surrounding Nockberge mountains. Schwarzsee captivates with a picturesque view of the Eisenhut. The return route now takes us over narrow footbridges across a high moor and then back through Swiss stone pine forests to Turracher See.
