From Vienna or Graz via Mürzzuschlag and Neuberg an der Mürz to Karlgraben (marked).
From the parking area in Karlgraben (access via Neuberg an der Mürz, heading toward Mürzsteg), we follow a stream bed, passing the climbing area Elisabethwandl, until we reach a dam. From here, the path, marked red-white-red, winds through the forest in numerous switchbacks up to the alpine plateau.
There, we follow the trail to the Windberg, the highest point of the Schneealm (summit cross, magnificent panorama, 1,903m), turning right and passing an alpine hut along the way.
For the return journey, we follow the same path, passing the Michlbauerhütte, located just below the Windberg, which is open from May to October.
