About the region
Ranten is the birthplace of Martin Zeiller (1589 - 1661), who is considered to be one of the first travel journalists in the world. He wrote the first travel guide in German (Fidus Achates) and the people of Ranten built the Martin Zeiller Garden in his honour, which can be admired on the village square.
