Kirchbergvitalweg Bergrunde

The Kirchbergvitalweg leads along forest and meadow paths, partially paved sidewalks and asphalted municipal roads. It is possible to enter the trail at various points.
In Kirchberg it strikes thirteen. A young legend can be told about the renovation of the Kirchberg parish church: During the reworking of the clock face on the tower clock, the error devil was at work. The journeymen painters who worked on the tower clock were known by the masons to be particularly snooty. They constantly harassed and ridiculed the mason apprentices who were working diligently on the church renovation. the masons thought long and hard about how they could play a juicy joke on the painters. Without further ado, they decided to add another line to the twelve on the steeple, turning the twelve into thirteen. In order not to be seen during their prank, the apprentice bricklayers painted their stroke only when it was dark. It was not until the steeple-high scaffolding was taken down and the people of Kirchberg looked with interest and pride at their renovated church that the painters' outrage came to light: In Kirchberg it strikes since then thirteen! (from the book "Sagenhaftes Kirchberg")

Detailed information on how to get here can be found here.

We decide to start at the Heurigenschenke Hiebaum-Plescher, where there is also a large parking lot. At the place with the exercise board or overview map we do some mobilization exercises to warm up the joints and muscles. Then we immediately cross the vineyard ditch path and after a bridge we enter the forest. Following the signs, the path first leads uphill in hairpin bends to reach the Rothbergweg, which is almost level. Follow this path down towards Wörth. We turn off at Gschwend and cross a small ditch on a robust footbridge. Now we take a nice meadow path up to the edge of the forest, where a bench invites us to sit and we have a nice view to Wörth. Now we climb further uphill through the forest and soon reach the meadow, which finally leads us to the mountain inn Schlögl. Up there it is worthwhile to take a rest and to strengthen ourselves and enjoy the view of the East Styrian hill country. For those who come there outside the opening hours of the inn, the host has provided a refrigerator with drinks. The Bergwirt Schlögl is also a nice starting point for the Kirchbergvitalweg. At the overview board we can orientate ourselves well and the stones at the exercise area invite us to do some gymnastics. We hike a short distance on the beautiful mountain ridge and look to the Gleichenberger Kogeln and to Feldbach, before the path leads down into the forest after the former Platzbauer. Now we should follow the signs exactly to reach the plain again after a short steeper descent at the Inwinkelweg. First we go through Wörth, then the Bergrunde branches off at Ranzweg. A little steeper uphill we come to a beautiful ridge and look first back towards Wörth and Feldbach. A little later there is a great view to Kirchberg at a meadow with a resting place. Now it is only a few meters to the Eicherlkreuz. There we also meet the Ortsrunde, which leads in the direction of Kirchberg. However, we follow the signpost down to the Heurigenschenke Hiebaum-Plescher.
Once you reach your destination, it is recommended to do stretching exercises to be fit again for the next hike.
