Museum der Stadtgemeinde Kapfenberg

The Kapfenberg Museum originated from the Cave Museum. This was established in the 1920s to showcase the archaeological finds from the Rettenwand Cave. Over the years, the Cave Museum had 4 different locations. In 1989, it found a permanent home in the newly opened KUlturZentrum and was converted into a city museum. Various themes from the past are addressed on two floors, highlighting the strengths and peculiarities of the city. Some exhibits, such as the Bronze Age socketed axe or the gothic church windows, are of particular scientific value.

The museum tour begins with prehistory and early history, passes through the Middle Ages and modern times, and includes the museum kitchen from the 1920s. In the basement, the blacksmith's room, industrial history, Böhler, mining, and world market leaders form the thematic focus on "Work." On the 10-meter-long timeline, events from Kapfenberg's history are juxtaposed with interesting Austrian and international events. The conclusion covers the themes of buildings, education, sports, collections, and culture, which can be summarized under the term "Life."
