The remarkable life of Anna Neumann - theater play
The St. Georgen am Kreischberg theatre association is performing the play ‘The remarkable life of Anna Neumann, mistress of Murau’. The life of this Murau icon, who shaped and moulded the district so lastingly, has been adapted by Mag. Johanna Seidl into a stage play, which can be seen on the following dates in the former Obergantschnig House in Anna-Neumann-Straße in Murau. Anna Neumann did not leave any private statements about her ‘strange’ life, so we can only infer from her actions what she might have felt and thought. A dramatisation of her biography is therefore a balancing act between historical truth (to which I feel committed as the author!) and literary invention. Significant personal experiences/events such as married life/the many deaths of relatives or economic events are linked to historical-political-religious attitudes and developments (e.g. the expulsion of the Zeiller family). Figures from the people and especially her confidant, the court jester as the second main character alongside Anna, serve as colporteurs of public opinion. Alongside all the tragedy that characterises Anna's life, the court jester provides humour and entertainment!
