GeoWerkstatt Gams
LandlGeology is for tinkering
Gams is a GeoVillage. So of course there should also be a geo-workshop. Especially when you can find fossils and stones all around the village that are really good to uncover or to work into jewellery. On the first floor of the workshop, there are many beautiful stones to look at and learn about. And downstairs you can try your hand at grinding and oiling them for all they're worth.
The most beautiful souvenir in the world...
Not even with a lot of imagination can you imagine walking in and around Gams: This used to be a huge sandy beach. And by former, we really mean many millions of years ago. That's why you can still find fossils today, around Gams there are 14 different kinds. But beautiful stones can also be brought to the GeoWerkstatt and processed further - if you file them, drill a hole in them and then put a leather strap on them, they can easily be worn as jewellery. This is how seemingly ordinary stream stones are made into jewellery. And then they can be taken home with you - a souvenir that you can wear around your neck.
Workshop
The one-and-a-half to two-hour workshop in the GeoWerkstatt also brings a lot of knowledge to light. For many, the best thing is to simply "learn by doing". Then you can look under a microscope at tiny creatures that lived in the sea millions of years ago. You can imagine them as miniature dinosaurs. Exciting, isn't it?
