Organ Spring: New Beginnings & Jubilation

“Departure & Joy” brings fine sounds to the pilgrimage church of Maria Straßengel in Gratwein-Straßengel, Styria. As part of the Organ Spring Styria 2026, trumpet and organ come together, filling the church space with clear, warm tones.

The special acoustics of the Gothic church carry every note far through the nave, making the interplay intensely palpable. With Jürgen Ellensohn on trumpet and Michael Schöch on organ, two experienced musicians take the stage. Their program spans from festive pieces to tranquil passages. Sometimes bright and radiant, sometimes carried and calm – this very mixture creates the charm of the evening.

The pilgrimage church of Maria Straßengel is one of the most well-known churches in the region around Graz. Situated high up, it offers not only a wide view but also a special setting for concerts. Speaking of atmosphere: The sound of the organ blends particularly well with the trumpet here, creating a rounded listening experience.
