The Stein.Zeit Museum at Stift Rein presents the oldest known mining activities in Styria. A permanent exhibition showcases the over 6,000-year-old hornstone mining from Rein, which shaped tools, trade, and life in the region. The museum will open on November 17 at 12:30 PM.
The Stein.Zeit Museum at Stift Rein, in collaboration with the Universalmuseum Joanneum and the Academy of Sciences, is dedicated to the oldest known mining in Styria. In a fascinating permanent exhibition, the more than 6,000-year-old hornstone mining from Rein is presented. This not only shaped the development of tools but also influenced trade and daily life in the region. The hornstone mining represents a unique testament from the Neolithic era and provides a deep insight into the earliest history of mining in Europe.
