When the days are longest, the old knowledge surrounding herbs takes center stage in Stübing. The BLOOM Day at the Austrian Open-air Museum Stübing focuses on solstice customs, medicinal plants, and traditional customs in Styria.
On June 21, 2026, fragrant St. John's herbs, small solstice bushes, and traditional rituals will be the focus among the historic farmhouses. Cultural mediators will share stories about plants that have been cherished for generations. How was gathering done in the past? Which herbs were believed to protect the home and farm? And what is the significance of the solstice fire?
Simple delights from the region will also be available. Freshly baked solstice doughnuts are just as much a part of the event as conversations about folk medicine and agricultural tradition. The expansive grounds make history tangible, step by step through various regions of Austria.
The BLOOM Day is part of the annual program of the Universalmuseum Joanneum and brings the theme of plant culture to the Graz Region. Between old farms and blooming meadows, it shows how closely nature and everyday life are intertwined in Styria. A day that peacefully brings together customs, knowledge, and landscape.
