Chamber Music Festival: Men who feel love

Love runs like a red thread through this concert at the Chamber Music Festival. In the summer refectory of the Stift Rein in Styria, cello and piano come together in works by Ludwig van Beethoven, dedicated entirely to the feeling of affection.

On August 30, Reinhard Latzko and Philipp Scheucher will create an evening that retells familiar melodies in new ways and gives them space for subtle nuances. The starting point is variations on themes that many will recognize: from Handel’s oratorio “Judas Maccabäus” as well as from Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.” Particularly, the theme “Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen” is central and connects music and content in a clear way. The program is completed with the sonatas for piano and cello No. 2 in G minor, op. 5 No. 2, and No. 3 in A major, op. 69. These works showcase Beethoven in his approachable side: calm, searching, sometimes playful.

In the historic setting of the Stift Rein, the sounds unfold warmly and directly. The combination of architecture, sound, and theme creates a special atmosphere.
