What guests can look forward to
Graz’s historic old town and Eggenberg Palace are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Around Hauptplatz, Herrengasse and Schlossberg, Renaissance courtyards, Baroque façades, narrow streets and some of the best-known sights in Graz are all within easy reach. The Kunsthaus Graz, contemporary architecture and a lively cultural scene reveal another side of the city. The museums in Graz explore art, history, folk culture and natural history. Guided city tours and walking tours offer fresh perspectives on familiar squares, historic courtyards and individual neighbourhoods.
Food is an essential part of everyday life in Graz. At the farmers’ markets in Graz, particularly at Kaiser-Josef-Platz and Lendplatz, fresh vegetables, cheese, bread and many other products from Styria find their way directly into the city. Traditional inns, restaurants, cafés and wine bars showcase the region’s culinary diversity. As Austria’s Capital of Delights, Graz is known for regional produce, Styrian cuisine and a diverse urban dining scene.
Green spaces are also an important part of Graz. Schlossberg, Stadtpark and numerous other parks and gardens offer space for a break, a leisurely walk or an afternoon outdoors. The urban hiking trails in Graz lead up hills, to scenic viewpoints, towards the green outskirts and even through a gorge.
Graz also offers plenty of opportunities to explore by bike. A well-developed network of cycle paths makes cycling in Graz part of everyday life as well as a relaxing way to enjoy the city’s green surroundings. The Mur Cycle Path follows the river through Graz and continues across Styria. Some pleasure cycling tours also start in Graz and head into the surrounding countryside, passing attractions, traditional inns and regional producers.
Towards the end of the year, Graz welcomes its fifth season. During Christmas time in Graz, 15 Christmas markets fill the squares and streets of the historic old town. Festive lights, market stalls, Schlossberg and seasonal events create a special atmosphere throughout the city in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
