Mattelsberg circular trail no. 7 Variant a
The hike leads up to the Mattelsberg with a wonderful view and back to Großklein.
As early as the Hallstatt period (8th - 5th century BC), there was a settlement here covering about 20 hectares. The finds from this period indicate that this was the largest necropolis (= burial site) in the eastern Alps, with around 3000 urn graves. The area was continuously inhabited. The village and a church in Klein (Klvne) are mentioned in documents as early as the early Middle Ages around 1170. 11 hectares are mentioned in the Habsburg land register from 1290.
