Information
The cozy Steinplan mountain hut, located in close proximity to the summit, invites visitors to linger. Both hikers and mountain bikers enjoy a wonderful panorama on the sun terrace.
At 1,670 meters, Steinplan is the local mountain of the Knittelfeld, Lobming, and Rachau residents. Marked hiking paths lead from all sides through the extensive forest and alpine area of Glein and Stubalpe to the summit of Steinplan, which offers a unique view. Traditional dishes made with regional products are served in the hut as well as on the spacious sun terrace.
Marked hiking paths from all directions lead to Steinplan through the extensive pastures and forests of Glein and Stubalpe, offering a unique view. To the south, one can see the Stubalpe, Grössing, Koralpe, and the Karawanken. The Seetaler Alps with the Zirbitzkogel, as well as the first glacial mountains of the Hohe Tauern with Hochalmspitze, frame the view to the west. To the north, the Aichfeld spreads out in the valley, and in the background, one can see the peaks of the Seckauer Alps and Niedere Tauern as well as the Eisenerzer Alps. To the east, the view stretches from Voitsberg to Schöckl and Wildoner Berg.
In winter, the mountain is popular among ski tourers and snowshoe hikers. There is an opportunity to warm up in the beautiful winter room.
Opening hours:
- From early May to the end of October - 08:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m.
- Monday to Wednesday is a day of rest!

- from Kleinlobming - Hintertal, 12.5 km, 910 vertical meters, medium difficulty
- from Rachau, 16 km, 1,010 vertical meters, difficult
"Brandwaldsteig" - single trail - for cyclists only, helmet compulsory!!!
Freeride trail in the town of Knittelfeld, freely accessible. A beautiful trail that requires some downhill-oriented frame geometry. Steeper in the lower section and muddy after precipitation.
Entry: 1,253 m, exit: 816 m, route length 3 km.
