As one of the most ecologically valuable stretches of river in Austria, the unspoilt floodplain landscapes offer a special experience of nature and an opportunity to relax. The Mur floodplains are characterised by an exceptionally beautiful river landscape.

The idyllic villages and the beautiful landscape offer a wide range of leisure activities such as hiking, running, horse riding, Nordic walking, cycling, mountain biking, boating and rafting on the Mur.

Sports enthusiasts can experience untouched nature, past fish and water birds, on a boat or canoe trip.

The Mur is ideally navigable and meanders through the villages and meadows with a gentle current. There are easy rapids along the way, which even the youngest can master with enthusiasm. Driven by the gentle current, the trip goes through a charming landscape.

The leisure paradise of the Mur Auen is not called the most beautiful gym in Styria for nothing. At the natural pond in Edling, you can work your muscles at various stations or enjoy and relax during restorative walks along the Mur.

Cosy benches invite you to linger on dreamy paths. Between the remnants of alluvial forest, farmland, meadows, slope forest and crops, you will find both natural and man-made bodies of water. This mosaic of landscapes can best be discovered on the Au-Erlebnis-Weg in St. Peter ob Judenburg, which was opened in 2004. From the access roads in St. Peter, signs direct nature lovers to the starting point of the trail north of the village of Furth. On a route of about 2 km, information boards at a total of 5 stations provide information about the floodplain world. From the floodplain forest and oxbow lake habitat to the river habitat and the Mur lifeline, the bird life of the floodplain and the meadow-soil habitat, you reach the pond habitat at the Moserlacke just before the district of Pichl.

The well-known Mur cycle path, which is very popular with many cyclists, leads through the municipalities of St. Peter, St. Georgen and Unzmarkt-Frauenburg.
