Vernissage 110th birthday of Edith Kramer
Edith Kramer
Grundlsee – New York, an artist between two worlds
On the occasion of the 110th birthday of the artist Edith Kramer, a selection of her works will be presented at the Imperial Stables.
The native Viennese spends many summers in her childhood at Grundlsee with her aunt. Grundlsee is a meeting place for intellectuals, artists, actors, scientists, and journalists, and this environment shapes her. After graduating from high school in 1934, Edith Kramer studies in Prague and Vienna until 1938. In 1938, she emigrates to America. There, she combines her passion for portraiture from the start with her curiosity for the art of children. From 1950, she works art therapeutically with children and adolescents in New York. Teaching assignments and professorships complete her scholarly work. She documents art therapy in several books.
Both in America and in Styria, Edith Kramer lives out her artistic endeavors. She tirelessly portrays her two worlds of life, in rich detail and high quality.
On January 21, 2014, the passionate artist and "mother of art therapy" dies in Grundlsee.
The exhibition shows works from these two worlds of life.
A selection of her works can be seen at the Imperial Stable in Grundlsee from August 1 to 31, each day from Tuesday to Sunday from 5–7 p.m. with free admission.
